Abraham’s Tent, an open home hostel in the holy old city of Jerusalem, was dedicated last week in memory of Kasriel Benjamin OBM at Itchke’s shtiebel in Crown Heights.
Complete with sushi, cheese, wine tasting and a bonfire, the event was enjoyed by all, as participants vowed to continue on Kazi’s legacy by emulating his values of acceptance and loving-kindness to all.
Kazi’s father Yehuda Benjamin spoke and shared some heartwarming messages they received from Kazi’s friends after his passing. He expressed his happiness that such a wonderful project was being dedicated in his son’s memory.
Rabbi Yosef Eichenblatt, founder and director of Abraham’s Tent, explained the idea behind the center.
“Being involved in Shlichus since I was a young boy, I saw how much effort was spent on attracting and inspiring people,” he said.
“When my wife Sorale and I saw the thousands of tourists coming to Israel inspired and looking for more, we knew we had to provide a place for them.”
Catering to English speaking young adults, Abraham’s Tent is an open home and hostel which provides an opportunity for tourists to learn about and further their Judaism in an intellectually stimulated and friendly environment.
The center will benefit all Chabad and Jewish institutions, as it will be the link between the inspiration experienced in Israel and the continuation of it in one’s life and community.
Co-director Rabbi Mendel Eichenblatt spoke about the day to day running of the center.
Starting June 14th Abraham’s tent will provide lodging, meals, Shabbatons, tours, classes, concerts, parties and a chance for tourists to take their Israel experience to the next level.
Our network center offers a combination of tools and resources to serve as an individual’s launching pad for further discovery and opportunities available to them in Israel and abroad.
This crucial element enables them to maximize their experience in Israel and provides an opportunity to integrate into a future life inclusive of a critical contribution to the Jewish people.
Located in the heart of the Old city the center is in a prime location for a real Israel experience.
