Catskills Hatzalah is the largest Hatzalah chapter in the world outside of Eretz Yisroel, covering the widest geographical area in the U.S. and the greatest population by far.
In addition to the enormity of this operation, we also deal with multiple challenges that other chapters don’t have.
For example:
• The people we serve are spread out across more than 1000 square miles.
• Local hospitals have only limited capabilities, which means numerous ambulances have to be ready to roll at a moment’s notice for long-distance transports.
• To keep the response time at historic lows, we must strategically allocate resources.
• Since no Hatzalah paramedics live in the Catskills during the winter months, Catskills Hatzalah sends up a paramedic from New York City every single day to cover a 24-hour shift, so a life should never be lost due to the absence of a paramedic.
• Our coverage area spans many jurisdictions and municipalities, with various fire departments and law enforcement agencies, so we have to constantly work on building new relationships.

Keeping hundreds of members equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and supplies and maintaining an enormous fleet—16 ambulances, an emergency response fly car, and a paramedic fly car—drives our annual budget to over one million dollars a year! We provide lifesaving services to:
• Nearly 1000 year-round heimishe residents of Sullivan County.
• Hundreds of people who work in the Catskills year-round.
• Approximately 500 families who spend weekends in the Catskills every week of the year.
• Hundreds of thousands of additional vacationers who spend their summers in Sullivan and Ulster Counties.
• Close to hundred thousand campers who spend their summers in various summer camps.
