After a 2-year run, Carbon Charcoal & Grill at 262 Kingston Avenue, a block from Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, is closing its doors. The kosher restaurant, certified by the CHK and known for its Pan American cuisine with a Latin flair, opened in June 2022.
Famous for its casual dining experience, the eatery featured self-service kiosks for placing orders and a find-your-own seating arrangement. Signature dishes included charcoal-cooked empanadas, Choripán sandwiches, and a variety of grilled meats.
The news of the closure was first posted on the Great Kosher Restaurant Foodies group on Facebook. “Sad to see Carbon go,” wrote Mordechai K. “It’s definitely a top 5 spot for me and my family. I have brought many people there who have gone back on their own as well.”
Taking its place will be the newest branch of Holy Schnitzel, a popular kosher eatery chain known for its diverse menu featuring schnitzel, chicken sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
Established with the aim of offering high-quality kosher food, Holy Schnitzel has expanded to multiple locations, including Brooklyn, Staten Island, Cedarhurst, and Queens.
The menu at Holy Schnitzel includes various schnitzel styles such as “The Holy Schnitzel,” “The Kung Fu Schnitzel,” and the “Loco Schnitzel,” alongside other options like grilled chicken, shawarma, and beef sandwiches.
“Holy Schnitzel is already in there painting and training staff,” reported Elan Kornblum of Great Kosher Restaurants. “Stay tuned for the opening date. This Crown Heights location is available as a franchisee.”
Holy Schnitzel operates under various kosher supervisions depending on the location. For instance, the Brooklyn location is supervised by Kehila Kashrus, the Staten Island location by the Vaad Harabbonim of Staten Island, the Cedarhurst location by the Vaad of Five Towns & Rockaway, and the Queens location by the Vaad Harabonim of Queens. In Manhattan, it is under the OK Kosher Certification.
It’s unclear under what supervision the Crown Heights branch will be.
To many food places they all think they can make it
Make food affordable
Also many places with similar cuisine
Fleishig fast food, burgers
(boeuf, essnbentch, Mendy’s, prime, etc, etc)
Maybe try a milchig idea, and not pizza
Well there’s patis just a few feet away
Holy Schnitzel has pretty good prices in Other locations.
I hope it will
Hope so too
🙂
Their food is mediocre. Not where near as good as our local places, ess n bench, prime avenue ect
Thank you for the carbon owner and staff who made that place really great. I enjoyed the ambience food and drinks..I also liked the funky bathroom licence plates and the music. Sad to see it go but as someone who worked a few years in the biz its hard to make it in restaurants. Good luck to Holy, I’ve enjoyed their food in flatbush for many years as well. Crispy chicken baguette anyone?
I reached out to ask the hechsher. They responded CHK.
Why does every single thing that comes to CH have to be the same fleishig fast food?! Can we have ONE healthy style place? Plenty of CHers are health concious and there already exists so many sandwich and deep fried shnitzel options!
Put your money where your mouth is , and go ahead and open up your healthy food establishment.
Go ahead open it up
Couldn’t agree more
Great Idea! You found your part of the world that needs fixing, run with it. Fund it, make it happen. Best of Luck
Bring glatt coney to CH!
We already have multiple schnitzel places.
how about an early bird special set menu, beginner and main, with a drink for those struggling to enjoy their offerings
That said looks excellent, and will definitely be around when I have the extra shift at work
How can someone name a meat food joint “HOLY”
