That driver did not lose control! He saved that kids life by swerving out the way.
Should be written from SOMEONE here (Community Council ? Beis Din?) to this driver immediately ! Anyone can see that he swerved to avoid hitting this totally careless scooter driver – if we want to improve the feelings between the races, we should not miss this opportunity to honor a hero. His car sustained massive damage – who pays for that ?? And the scooter kid should bench Gomel and lose use of that scooter for a very long time.
Yes, the child on the scooter was completely careless. This accident is his fault. These kids often carelessly and dangerously rode through the streets of Crown Heights.

More like the driver swerved out of the way to try and not hit the kid on the scooter. You should be writing that parents should teach their kids about safety and blowing into the street like that.

Scooter guy was in middle of street and trafffic, against traffic and traffic lights, was driving unsafely on so many levels, is lucky to be alive. Car driver seemed not have any choice and had to swerve to avoid scooter guy. I hope the city quickly bans motorized bikes and scooters, or at least requires them to be licensed and obey 100% of vehicular traffic, including safety gear (like seat belts are required for cars).
Am grateful for cameras that record – preventing, to a certain extent, ignorant conclusions and false stories.
Not saying the kid is not at fault but from what i heard the white car was driving reckless from bergan st and when the gray suv swerved to make a turn and not hit the boy the whit car was in a rush and slammed the gas i heard from the driver of the suv u see at about 7 seconds
The fact is in the video and at the current moment he wasn’t doing anything wrong.. only trying to swerve as to not run the guy over. Which landed his car for the garbage..

Saw the aftermath from my window across the street, after the driver was treated by the ambulance, the police handcuffed him and put him in their vehicle.

Cars had green light and right of way and since the first car stopped, it blocked the view of the kid so he couldn’t see him until it was too late

You have clearly made a massive mistake with the heading of the story, you should fix that ASAP. As drivers in Crown Heights, people on bicycles and scooters are the biggest danger to us. Im so happy the boy without the helmet is ok (Man) and this is so crazy how his safety lack caused a bigger disaster, I hope and can imagine the car driver isok.

You should never cross diagonally, that is a big no no.
They should make a rule that you most wear a helmet, otherwise you get a $50 fine.

yes, seem like the person, man on the scooter put others in harms way. and was crossing without a helmet against traffic.
luckily he did not get too injured and I’m sure the poor driver is having a heart attack because of what the reckless scooter man did.

That kid almost got killed. Where is his helmet? The white car driver is a hero and probably needs therapy at this point and a new car obviously. These scooters should be banned or forced to follow traffic laws. This kid needs to bentch goimel.
The driver was super alert and heroically saved the kids life. You have our communities gratitude! As to why he was arrested, I assume that the police did it thinking that he was a reckless driver, yet when the surveillance footage was released I’m sure it clarified that he was super alert and pivoted his car to avoid the child. If anything, although I’m sure he was shaken up, yet I’m sure he will get a good nights sleep knowing that he saved a kids life. And I pray his insurance seeing the video will absolve him of responsibility.

The real issue is the scooters. They are all over the sidewalks endangering pedestrians and the few that drive in the street where they belong do not follow any traffic rules. By law scooters are not allowed to be on the sidewalk. By law anyone operating a moving vehicle needs to follow the rules. Whether that is a car, bicycle or electric scooter. Scooters are allowed to be on the sidewalks.
In fact, the police at the community meeting earlier this year in ULY building mentioned that even adult bike riders may use the sidewalk when they feel the street isn’t safe for them (like when there’s no bike lane, or double parked cars forcing the bike into the single available lane, etc.)

Also it seems that is a one lane Street one car at a time and the other car could not wait so the guy turns right and he tried to overtake him or he was on the side Of the car that was turning to the right so he was speeding too fast he had no patience to wait for the other car to turn so to speak

The scooter was already in the wrong before the accident. He was riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk which is against the law. The reason why it’s against the law is because it endangers pedestrians.
Seriously you guys are all sitting here trying to decide who’s fault it is. It doesn’t matter who’s fault it is, right now it matters that the person in the car got hurt, the car is ruined, and most probably the guy on the scooter got hurt, or even if he didn’t he still suffered major trauma. STOP JUDGING what happened happened, right now we can’t undo what happened, we can learn from this video for the future but don’t be mean.
Real ahavas yisroel is to protect the people of crown heights and get illegal scooter riders off the street.
Worry about all the people who are constantly at risk of being hit on the sidewalk. Worry about the cars. Worry about the pedestrians that can be hit by cars when they serve to avoid an illegal scooter rider.
The entire community is in danger because of people like the one riding his scooter in this video. We should care about all of THEM.
I see this all the time kids on scooters they don’t slow down by the cross walk and just go into on coming traffic.
I see this a lot by empire and Brooklyn when kids come riding down Brooklyn avenue in full speed and don’t slow down. car can be turning.

The boy did drive straight in to traffic that had the right of way. In order for that car to end up in the yard the way he did he had to be doing 50mph and he ended up arrested because he was on drugs.
While the kid on the scooter is clearly at fault here and should be reprimanded – this DOES NOT mean that ALL kids are reckless scooter drivers.
Many kids DO drive carefully and with caution.

I’ve watched the video at least 30 times. No one is “clearly at fault” here. Maybe the scooter rider was setup by the grey minivan or there was some other reason it swerved right.
Can we just say thank you Hashem that this wasn’t any worse than it was?
I’d also like to thank the drivers of the white car and grey minivan for swerving out of the way and to the scooter rider for what appears to be him waiving away help and directing it to the white car.
DRIVER WAS NOT ARRESTED BECAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT HE WAS ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE.
CH full of kids and schools – limit to 10-15 miles per hour on these blocks that close to the schools during the school time … and add cross guards

A few months ago I was almost hit by a kid on a scooter. I was with a stroller too. I had the right of way to cross and when I saw he wasn’t stopping I moved back. Next thing I know he rode into a moving van who had the right of way. He bounced of the van and thank g-d he was wearing a helmet. So many kids and adults aren’t wearing helmets and I’ve seen a lot of kids careless lately. ☹️
