An all-star cast of chazanim recently joined for a cantorial tribute titled “Remembering the 45” in memory of the 45 Jews who were killed in the deadly crush on Mount Meron near the tomb of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai on Lag BaOmer.
The concert held this past Sunday was streamed live from the Park East Synagogue in Manhattan and was arranged by the shul’s executive director and Cantor, Benny Rogoznitzky.
Featured at this concert were cantors Netanel Hershtik, Yaakov Lemmer, Zevy Muller, Yossi Pomorantz, Aryeh Hurwitz, Chaim David Berson, Avraham Burnholtz, conductor Russel Gerr and his choir.
The musical accompaniment was directed and played by Cantor Eric Freeman.
Looking back at the event, Hurwitz remarked how it can be seen as “a prayer for the safety of our holy brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael” in light of the Arab terror that has been unleashed across the Holy Land.
“At a time like this, we need to remind ourselves that “hinei lo yanum vlo yishan Shomer Yisrael – Hashem, the guardian of the yidden does not sleep nor slumber,” he said.
At the concert, Hurwitz sang Esa Einai of Cantor Moshe Koussevitzky
