Changing of the chiefs.
The 71st Precinct of the New York Police Departement has been assigned a new commanding officer, replacing Deputy Inspector Norman Grandstaff, sources told COLlive.com.
The new chief will be Deputy Inspector Francis Giordano who is coming from the 69th Precinct which serves the mostly residential Canarsie section of Brooklyn.
Giordano will be charged with protecting and serving the central Brooklyn area which contains the southern portion of Crown Heights, Wingate, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens.
Most notably, the 71st precinct is home to Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, a contact hub of activity for locals and visitors from around the world.
According to the NYPD CompStat Unit, the area has seen a decline in the number of burglaries, robberies, murder and rape. One area that has not improved by much is grand larceny.
The official announcement about the appointment has yet to be made.
The police under report cases to keep numbers down.
