Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown, New Jersey, hosted a “Road Trip Shabbaton,” welcoming students and Shluchim from Canadian campuses who were on break.
It was Shabbos filled with joy and visitors joined from the Tri-State area as well.
In following the dictum “Simcha Poretz Geder,” the joy of this Shabbos melted geographical and demographic separations as student and visitors, shluchim and teachers, studied, farbranged and danced together all Shabbos long.
Rabbi Moshe Goldman from Waterloo, Ontario, said that his students felt welcomed and inspired from the moment they entered the beautiful campus grounds of the yeshiva.
“Every campus Shliach wants to be able to give student an authentic Yeshiva experience, but it is often difficult to convince them to try it out,” Goldman said.
“Joining my students on this trip was a way that they were comfortable with coming without being intimidated, and they loved every moment of it! Even the ride was a great opportunity to prepare for the experience, and the way back was a good time to “download” the inspiration on the way home!”
Sasha Bernbaum, who crossed the border from Montreal, said “I’m coming back to partake in more!”
One college student grew up with a religious background shared something interesting during a farbrangen. He explained that here he found himself surrounded by guys from so many varied experiences who were all equally ignited by the pure excitement of Yiddishkiet.
He said this made him appreciate who he was more than he’s ever felt before. Contrasting this to life on college campuses where so much is available and accessible, “yet it is here in the sheltered environment in the unique yeshiva atmosphere that I never felt as free and unfettered,” he said.
“It was a ground-breaking success and we look forward to hosting many more such events in the future,” said Rabbi Yaakov Wagner, Mashpia at Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim.
