A very moving event took place today at the Jewish community complex – the central Chabad House in Almaty, Kazakhstan, near the grave of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, when a young Jew from the city of Kostanay agreed to undergo his Bris Milah today, the anniversary of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s passing.
After praying at the holy gravesite, the circumcision was held, with R’ Avi Shaulson, who initiated together with R’ Shmuel Stern the establishment of the summer yeshiva ‘Oholei Levi Yitzchak’ and assists every year in bringing hundreds of Chasidim to mark the Yartzeit in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, serving as the Sandek. Next to the young man stood the rabbi of Kostanay, the Shliach Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zalmanov and the mohel, the Shliach of Alma Ata Rabbi Elchanan Cohen, representative of the World Organization Brit Yosef Yitzchak.
The young Jewish boy chose for himself the name Chaim, and the Head Shliach to Kazakhstan Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen says: “This Bris Milah is another testimony to the continuation of Jewish life in the country. Today we reap what Rabbi Levi Yitzchak sowed in tears.”
Shlucha Leah Cohen, who manages the camp for children of Kazakhstan, said: “The power of R’ Levik: The child Vanya came from Kostanay for the second year to participate in Camp Gan Israel. A month and a half ago we were at their home to hold a Bris for his baby brother where he was himself the Sandek. Vanya still refused to have a circumcision. The counselors at the camp tried in every way to persuade him to have a circumcision. Yesterday at the event they lifted him on their shoulders and sang in the tune of ‘The whole world is…And the main thing is not to be afraid to have a Bris’… I stood in front of the screen that was in the women’s section and filmed especially for his mother how they danced with him and sang the song… She wrote me in response: – ‘Vanya wrote to me that he is thinking of having a circumcision’… And indeed today the Bris Milah took place.”
