Chabad bochurim Sholom Dovber Silberstein and his brother Yisrolik Silberstein of Montreal, Canada, recently completed their work as staff members at Camp L’man Achai in New York.
During camp, both staff and campers are on a mission to get as many people as possible to put on Tefillin.
The Silbersteins decided to continue that effort when they traveled to England to spend time with their grandparents before returning to Yeshiva after the summer break.
While in London, they decided to do Mivtzoim just like they had been doing during camp. Walking around London, not far from Buckingham Palace, they met 4 Jewish men from Australia.
The men agreed to put on Tefillin but the Sulbersteins only had one pair in hand.
One of the brothers ran to the corner where he had previously spotted some frum travelers and got a few more pairs to use.
One of the Australians was afraid of wrapping tefillin in public, in light of the recent high level of antisemitism, but was encouraged. “We need to be proud and not afraid, and this is how we win,” one of the Silberstein brothers said.
“It was a moving moment,” an onlooker told COLlive.com. “the Canadian Chabad boys, the Israeli litvish travelers and the Australians in the middle of central London bonding over the special Mitzvah of tefillin.”
