In an exciting competition that challenged knowledge and memory retention this past Wednesday, March 8th, Heights Hebrew School of Congregation B’nai Avraham of Brooklyn Heights hosted the Local Championship for the JewQ Jewish trivia program.
To be admitted, students took three detailed tests to assess their knowledge. After the selection process, seven CBA Heights Hebrew School student contestants competed in a heated multimedia question competition to demonstrate their detailed comprehension of Jewish trivia before an appreciative audience of students, parents, and grandparents.
All contestants studied long and hard to present their grasp of information onstage, a process which was arduous and challenging. Students faced off with one another in a game show style event while answering rapid-fire questions, for example, “How many minutes before sunset are the Shabbat Candles lit? What are the seven levels of giving charity?” And, “Name the “12 Tribes.!”
Sandy S., whose 4th grade daughter attends PS8, says “We loved seeing how much the kids learned in school. And especially how proud they were when they got the answers right. It was so much fun to see them celebrate with each other. We were so grateful to be able to witness their progress and joy”.
Alexis C., whose 3rd grader also attends PS8 says,”The JewQ Championship was one of the year’s biggest highlights! It was a real game show atmosphere, from the sparkly table cloths to the name badges to the prizes.”
Elli C., whose daughter attends St. Ann’s in Brooklyn Heights states, “
Students were given champion t-shirts, prizes and two trophies were awarded to the highest scorers.
Director Yael Raskin stated, “ This is our second year running this program, and it’s amazing to see the children’s enthusiasm really diving into studying so many details and trivia.”
Rabbi Yankel Raskin, Codirector, says, “The kids really love this stuff, it’s amazing to see all the knowledge they have accumulated!”
