Over 100 children of Gan Menachem Kiddie Korner Preschool of Brooklyn Heights marched through the streets of Brooklyn Heights leading to the Brooklyn Borough Hall steps with the help of parents and staff.
While the children ate snacks, Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin called up groups of children from every age group to recite one of the 12 Torah Passages.
Borough President Eric L. Adams came to greet the children and say a few words of unity and support.
“The children should inspire their parents to be united,” concluded Adams.
Many people who passed by the marching children were inspired by the friendship songs they sang and banners of friendship messages they were holding during the walk.
Gan Menachem Kiddie Korner Preschool runs the Friendship walk program every Lag Baomer to raise awareness of love, unity, and Torah.
Shternie Raskin, founder of Gan Menachem Kiddie Korner Preschool, said, “This year there was a very special energy of unity in the air as we walked down the streets.”
She added that one lady stopped her as they were walking and told her that her mom was Jewish, born in Spain and that she herself as an adult could not relate to any religion, and this walk and the children’s songs touched something in her heart and she would like to learn more about her Jewish heritage.
“Moments like this make me feel so proud of our Preschool and the hard work of my staff, parents, and Jewish community in Downtown Brooklyn at large,” added Mrs. Raskin.
