Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso visited Raskin’s Fish Market in Crown Heights on Tuesday, getting a taste of the famous Kosher herring from the landmark shop on Kingston Avenue.
Founded in 1961 by Mr. Berel Raskin, Raskin’s Fish has proudly served the Crown Heights community for over 60 years. Reynoso presented a proclamation in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month to Raskin’s children, Yossi Raskin and Shloime Raskin.
“Raskin’s Fish Market is a Brooklyn institution, and I am honored to present the Raskin Family with a proclamation for Jewish American Heritage Month,” said Reynoso.
He was accompanied by community activist Yaacov Behrman and Jacob Eisdorfer, Special Advisor to the Borough President.
“Raskin’s Fish Market has served the Crown Heights community for over 60 years, and I had a great time learning about their history and trying their delicious kosher fish,” he added, thanking the brothers “for their hospitality and to the entire Raskin family for their decades of service to our borough.”
Reynoso, who is running for reelection in the June 24 Democratic primary, then got to the real work: Tasting Raskin’s beloved herring options. After tasting 4 options, Reynoso said “They were all fantastic,” but pointed to the Herring Pistachio and said “this is my favorite!”
“It was a true pleasure and honor to welcome Borough President Reynoso to our fish shop in Crown Heights and to accept the proclamation presented by your office,” Shloime Raskin commented.
“Throughout the decades, we have remained a cherished destination for a beautifully diverse customer base. Borough President Reynoso’s visit and acknowledgment mean a great deal to our family and our staff, and we are deeply grateful for this meaningful recognition,” Raskin said.

Herring is nice, but was he informed about the protected bike lane that will cause the same issue on Kingston as it’s doing in Williamsburg, which the Brooklyn Borough President is well aware about
The Raskin family brings such positive energy and good will to everyone and are great living examples of what it means to be happy and enthusiastic Jews and Chassidim.
