This year, Chabad of Georgetown illuminated the holiday season with a series of vibrant and meaningful Chanukah events, bringing together the community in the spirit of joy and celebration. Here’s a glimpse into eight distinctive happenings that added a special glow to this year’s festivities:
1. Pre Chanukah Women’s Event – Survivors Shine Bright: Kicking off the season, Chabad of Georgetown hosted a heartwarming pre-Chanukah women’s event that transcended the ordinary and touched the depths of human strength. Among the attendees were two extraordinary women who had survived the harrowing October 7th massacre in Israel. As they shared their stories of survival, the room became a sanctuary of support, compassion, and shared strength.
2. Motzei Shabbos Car Parade – Light on Wheels: Shliach Mendy Weissberg led a spirited Motzei Shabbos car parade, joined by ten local Chabad families. The streets lit up as participants adorned their vehicles with Chanukah menorahs, spreading the festive cheer throughout the neighborhood.
3. Sunday Bowling – Strikes and Lights: Chanukah took on a playful twist with a Sunday bowling event. A massive crowd of at least 600 people gathered for a fun-filled afternoon, rolling strikes, eating pizza, and celebrating the Festival of Lights in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.
4. Monday Night Foodway – Culinary Delights: In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the local Foodway supermarket became the backdrop for a Chanukah public menorah lighting at Chabad of Georgetown. The vibrant glow of the menorah was accompanied by a dreidel mascot – on stilts! Families gathered to witness the lighting ceremony, transforming the supermarket into a hub of celebration, fostering a sense of unity and joy among patrons.
5. Tuesday Night Shuk – Market of Memories: In a captivating fusion of tradition and community, the local Shuk supermarket served as the enchanting backdrop for a Chanukah public menorah lighting hosted by Chabad of Georgetown. The Chanukah celebration at the shuk symbolized the intersection of everyday life and cherished traditions, creating an unforgettable moment where the joy of the holiday seamlessly blended with the rich local spirit.
6. Every Night Menorah Lighting with Bochurim – Sharing the Light: Throughout the week, dedicated bochurim volunteers from Chabad of Georgetown gifted menorahs to families and stayed to share in the nightly lighting ceremonies. The menorah’s glow symbolized the unity and continuity of the Jewish people, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
7. Yeshivat Bitahon Public Lighting – Tanks and Treats: Yeshiva Bitachon invited Rabbi Avraham Holtzberg to host a memorable public menorah lighting event featuring a mitzvah tank, donuts, and a spectacular display of lights. The students and teachers gathered to witness the grand lighting, reinforcing the significance of Chanukah in public spaces.
8. Nightly Illumination – A Beacon of Hope: Each night, the lights of Chanukah burned brightly at Chabad of Georgetown. The nightly illuminations served as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the miracles that the holiday commemorates. Chabad of Georgetown’s Chanukah events brought diverse elements of celebration, tradition, and community together, creating lasting memories for all who participated. The warmth of the lights, the joy of shared experiences, and the spirit of togetherness made this year’s Chanukah truly special in Georgetown.
