The musical production of Bais Rivkah of Crown Heights, which was to take place at the South Shore High School in Brooklyn, had to be moved to a new location, “due to unforeseen circumstances,” COLlive has learned.
With less than a week to find a new venue, the school turned to Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, community activist and NYPD liaison, for assistance.
After 3 days of round the clock efforts by Halberstam and Benji Stock, Administrator of Bais Rivkah, the Board of Education signed off for the auditorium at Canarsie High School, 1600 Rockaway Parkway, in Brooklyn.
“It was an impossible task, but with the help of many individuals and friends of the community, we were able to arrange for this new location just in time,” Halberstam told COLlive.
She thanked Councilmember Chaim Deutsch and Councilmember and Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo for their herculean efforts on behalf of the community and getting this done.
Halberstam also thanked Ms. Ingrid Martin, Senior Adviser to the Borough President, for her efforts, as well as Chief Brian Conroy of School Safety, and Vinny Martinos of NYPD 71st Precinct.
The annual performance highlights and showcases the students’ talents in song, dance, art, and music.
This year’s production is based on a contemporary story of Shifra Chana and her encounter with the Rebbe and will keep audiences enthralled and inspired.
The first production will be taking place on Sunday, 26 Shevat, February 11, at 12:00 pm, and the second on Monday, 27 Shevat, February 12, at 6:00 pm at Canarsie High School, 1600 Rockaway Parkway, Brooklyn.
Ensuring the safety of the over 1500 people expected to attend each production will be directed by NYPD Chief Steven Powers, and under the auspices of Deputy Inspector Norman Grandstaff of 71st Precinct, Brooklyn South’s Ira Jablonsky, and Deputy Inspector Francis Giordano of the 69th Precinct.
Canarsie Campus is a designated scanning site, organizers said.
“This means that everyone entering the building must go through the DOE scanning process. There are no exceptions. All persons entering the building must use the entrance where the scanning equipment is set up. Scanning is done at this school because of ongoing security concerns. Entrance and exit from the building is limited (except in emergencies) to the entrance where the scanning equipment is located. At this building, guests must adhere to the scanning protocol and follow instructions provided by school security,” they said.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the show to allow extra time for security checks on entry.
They also noted that food is not permissible inside the auditorium.
Strollers present safety hazard at the auditorium; please don’t bring strollers.
All who attend should pay attention to the guidelines and rules for this event, organizers said.
