Students of Oholei Torah 7th grade were a bit surprised when their class Shliach handed out wedding invitations Friday before dismissal, but Sunday afternoon, Yud Daled Kislev, they got answers.
They were about to relive the Rebbe and Rebbetzen’s 85th anniversary, at the exact date, and exact time, in a unique and exciting way.
The talmidim were dismissed a half hour early where they were handed a “special entrance” ticket, as was by the Rebbe’s wedding in 1929 in Warsaw, Poland. Only those with the pass were able to enter. With ticket it in hand, they made their way down Eastern Parkway, to 770, Lubavitch Headquarters, where thousands make their weddings daily, many of them in the very early years attented by the Rebbe himself.
85 years ago, on the same day, and same time, the wedding of our Rebbe and Rebbetzin took place, and now, at exactly 5:00 p.m. the presentation began for the Oholei Torah students.
Rabbi Yaakov Chazzan inspired the boys, telling the detailed story of the Rebbe’s wedding, and what this special day means to them as young 12 year olds today.
L’chaim was distributed, and an inspiring video was shown to the students. The video had many rare clips of the Rebbe being mesader kedushin, and saying the sheva brochos loudly. The boys were excited as they watched and felt the makom kadosh, as they were sitting in the exact place, of many weddings that the Rebbe was mesader! The event was then completed with lively dancing, and real simcha!
“The evening really gave a special feeling to the boys in attendance, of the day which the Rebbe referred to as ‘the day that connects me to you, and you to me,'” described the event’s organizers.
The presentation was organized by Oholei Torah’s “Shviin Chavivin” program, one of Oholei Torah’s elite divisions for its 7th graders- soon to be Bar Mitzvah bochrim. Shviin Chavivin designs special programs, workshops, mivtzahs, farbrengens and more, to make the students’ yiddishkeit and chaisidishkeit exciting and very interactive.
Special thank you to Rabbi S. Goldstein, principal of the mechinah department of Oholei Torah, Rabbi Yossi Bryski – director of O.T.E.G, and the shluchim bochrim of the 7th grade.
This event was co-sponsored in honor of the bar mitzvah of Menachem Mendel ben Tsherah, and the birthday of Chaya Mushkah bas Tsherah.
