For a few short but frightening minutes the streets in the Israeli village of Kfar Chabad were a danger zone on Tuesday.
A 14 year-old somehow got hold of a car and took it for what residents say was a wild ride, narrowly missing pedestrians.
The car belonged to a volunteer of the ‘Shifra and Puah’ new mother’s organization, who stopped by the home of a woman who recently gave birth to bring her breakfast.
The woman left the engine running when she got out of the car, and the eager boy decided to hop in and take it for a drive in the new ‘Levi Yitzchak’ neighborhood of Kfar Chabad.
At some point, the boy abandoned the car and escaped from the scene before police arrived and before a tragedy occured.
Explaining the decision of leaving the car running, the volunteer’s colleague said: “We ride every day and don’t leave the car more than a minute alone.
“There is no other way of doing it,” she defended her friend. “The car was left 4 meters from the house.”
An anonymous comment on the Hebrew COL identified himself as the boy and asked for forgiveness.
“This boy is me,” he wrote. “I am really sorry for the fear I caused, and promise not to do it again. The woman driver is not guilty; it was me who was reckless.”
He went on to say the psychologist in his school had a talk with him and that he now understands the severity of his deed.
“I thought it was kind of a joke. Do you understand?” he wrote.
he wasnt didnt you read it says he ran away from the sceen
Absolutely Not!
It was not a joke!
You call being an inexperienced 14-year-old STEALING a car and almost hitting pedestrians and driving wild in a street not crazy and ‘a joke’?
I DONT! I think that is extremely crazy – as in NOT normal!
Even IF everyone is ok (BH) this is just not the way it goes!
Anyone just cannot come and do that…
On the contrary to what you said, I don’t think its just ‘big deal’
What happened to this kid?
How was he punished?
i know boy who drive crezy he tell me he scard and sury he do it.
everywhere else it is illegal for a kid to drive at 14 – especially a stolen vehicle! where do you live that such behavior is ‘overlooked’? you are right, the main thing is B”H everyone is ok, but kids should not assume this is just a little ‘acceptable prank’.
it was a joke that anywhere else would have been overlooked bh everyone is ok finito
