Yuri Foreman, former world champion boxer, is going back into the ring after a hiatus, in which he healed from a knee surgery while studying extensively in Yeshiva and spending quality time with his 2-year-old son, Lev.
Now, he is back – stronger and more knowledgeable than ever.
With on eye on regaining the world championship title and with the added benefits of a new manager and trainer, he is confident that he has the best team possible in his corner.
In addition to his dedication to the sport of boxing, Foreman makes it his priority to study with Rabbi DovBer Pinson, a noted scholar and author who runs the IYYUN Center for Jewish Spirituality in Brownstone Brooklyn.
While learning there for smicha studies, Foreman has teamed up with Rabbi Pinson to open BBRJ – The Brownstone Brooklyn Russian Jewish Learning Experience at the IYYUN Center.
“There are many hundreds of young Russian Jews who don’t know that others even exist in this area, and are searching for community, and a meaningful Jewish experience,” says Rabbi Pinson.
“BBRJ will provide them with in depth Torah study, while providing a venue for social interaction and community. Yuri, as a role model, is perfectly placed to lead them as a Rabbi in training.”
Rabbi Pinson, who is connected with some Jewish Russian philanthropists, has been translating his most recent books into Russian to bring his knowledge of Chassidus and Kabbalah to Russian Jewry, eager for authentic spirituality and meaning in Judaism.
Foreman’s upcoming fight will take place on Wednesday, January 23 at New York City’s BB King Blues Club and Grill, 237 W 42nd St, New York NY. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
Following his comeback fight, the new Russian Jewish Expirience will kick off with a Tu B’Shvat Shabbaton, the weekend of January 25-26 at the IYYUN Center, 650 Sackett Street, Brooklyn, NY.
Foreman will be giving an address entitled “My Journey to Judaism – from the Boxing Ring to Yeshiva Bench” and he will be announcing his upcoming shiurim on introductory Judaism, offered as part of the center’s programming.

Yuri’s dedication and generousity were not only seen in my film IMPACT-Jewish Boxers in America that I produced http://www.impacthefilm.com but through out his entire career demonstrating his dedication to the Jewish people. Congratulations Yuri!–Producer James Ford Nussbaum.
