Hundreds joined for a lighting ceremony and concert at Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah on Sunday, the first night of Chanukah at Grand Army Plaza.
The festivities began with a Hakhel concert with the music group “Pey Daled”.
The first candle was lit by Rabbi Shimon Hecht of Chabad of Park Slope accompanied by Boro President Eric Adams.
Also lighting the Menorah was Mr. Ofer Cohen, whose company Terra CRG was the event’s sponsor.
Another special guest included NYS Senator Jesse Hamilton.
The giant Menorah, on display at the entrance to Prospect Park, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration, of spirituality over materiality.
The Menorah stands at a whopping 32 feet tall (the maximum allowed by Jewish law), and has been towering over Grand Army Plaza since 1985.
With assistance from a Con Edison cherry-picker, Rabbi Shimon Hecht accompanies community leaders, philanthropists and special guests in lighting the Menorah each night of Chanukah.
The celebration is accompanied by live music and hot latkes for all.
Special gifts are distributed to every child, making this a family celebration and a must on everyone’s calendar.
The lighting takes place at Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza every night of Chanukah at 6:00 PM. However, in order to accommodate Shabbos, Friday night’s lighting will take place at 3:30 PM, and Motzoei Shabbos at 7:00 PM.
Seems like it’s a record that will never be broken. Maybe tied, but not broken
For many years the one in Manhattan was the largest. The past few years the one on Grand Army Plaza is also around the same size.
I’m glad to see LA is well attended! Keep the flame burning!
i thought that the one on 5th Avenue is (was) the largest
A freilichen Chanukah to all.
