On the 27th of Adar I, 5752 (Monday, March 2, 1992), the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, suffered a disabling stroke while praying at the gravesite of the previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch.
On the same date two years later, the Rebbe lost consciousness following another stroke, eventually leading to Gimmel Tammuz 5754.
A group of caring Lubavitch bochurim, students of shiur daled in Beis Medrash Oholei Torah in Crown Heights decided to pull off a worldwide learning project to commemorate this day.
Beginning Wednesday night, bochurim from 58 Chabad Yeshivos in the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe, Israel and Australia are making shifts to learn the Rebbe’s teachings throughout Chof Zayin Adar.
The organizers told COLlive.com they wished to remain anonymous.
In the last few weeks they have contacted each Yeshiva – hanhala, talmidim shluchim and bochurim – to coordinate this effort, transcending differences in ideology and educational approach.
They advised bochurim to learn the Rebbe’s maamarim, sichos and igros kodesh with an emphasis on inyonei geula and moshiach.
