A bochur visiting from Israel was stabbed while walking on Union Street in Crown Heights on Friday night.
The bochur, who is a Chosson getting married after Tisha B’Av, is in Crown Heights to receive his Aliya to the Torah in 770 ahead of his wedding.
The bochur was walking on Union Street near Troy Avenue at approximately 2:30 am when he was approached by 2 thugs. Speaking very little English, he did not understand what they were saying, and one of them stabbed him with a scissor or a knife, the victim said.
The bochur, who was stabbed in the arm, did not call for help, and went to sleep with his injuries untreated.
On Shabbos morning, when he arrived at 770, concerned friends alerted Hatzalah to his condition, who transported him to Methodist Hospital for treatment.
He later walked back to Crown Heights from the hospital and received his Aliya.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Rabbi Chanina Sperlin of the CHJCC says that Inspector Hayward of the 71 Precinct will be adding patrols on Union Street, which has been a problem for crime incidents, he says.
Why didn’t he call for help?
Why ignore the situation?
So that our Orchim know to be very careful !! BH he is OK !!
Maybe because he’s a foreigner and doesn’t know the ropes. Maybe because it didn’t seem serious and was over, so what would be the point. Some people are not social activists, so on a personal level this was seemed over. Do you know enough facts to answer the question? Do you need to know your answers?
Honestly I could imagine it’s because he didn’t want to miss his Aliya in 770 and if he went to the hospital he didn’t know if he’d get it…
Who is he going to call at 2 am and without a phone on Friday night? He is not from here, doesn’t speak the language, may have no family here and the local authorities are not known for assisting our community, much less a foreign bochur.
Maybe there should be emergency phones that connect to 911 , police, hatzlah like in the old days….
I witnessed someone getting hurt on YT , and luckily there was a hatzalah member close by to help.
Not everyone is so lucky.
Not okay
Don’t walk so late alone !
Not blaming the victim Chv
But please , take care of your safety and don’t walk so late
Don’t blame the victim, you have no idea about his personal situation. The only ones to blame are the perpetrators.
It is summer, a lot of the community has left for the season. Streets are empty of Yidden to a significant extent. There is no public school either which creates an increase of bored, aimless youth. Also we are in the 3 weeks. It worthwhile to take reasonable precautions.
Called giving friendly advice
Meals these days begin at 10pm. Keep in mind before giving your grand advice. He would not necessarily be walking around that late otherwise.
Where did this happen?
So sad. Hope he’s alright.
Troy

Then what?
Dear Friends,
I beg of you to donate to SHOMRIM OR SHMIRA. We need their help. We have no one else to who watches our community.
Shomrim is having a campaign right now

And Mazal tov for his wedding
This is so rude it can written in a more sensitive way
I’m sure he didn’t get stabbed and walked away as if he gets stabbed every day
He was probably so scared or excited for his wedding
Be nice!
collive couldve written it nicer
If all of this is happening as he makes his way to the chuppah…it’s a sign it’s an extra special ‘UNION’
Unbelievable mesirus nefesh, to walk from hospital and still receive aliyah!
To the bochur, the whole incident should give you chizuk and strengthen you as you make your way, G-d Willing, in a smooth calm way to the chuppah, for your Kallah too…so that together you build your home.
“May their home be an everlasting edifice on the foundations of Torah and mitzvos and their life blessed with happiness in all things.”
(Text of The Rebbe’s handwritten blessing)
Maybe all guests from other countries should be informed especially in the summer empty streets what to do in emergencies. Maybe there should be some type of alarms like fire alarms that people can pull if attacked. Glad the victim is ok. Let shmira review local cameras to catch these bandits.
^5 on bringing back fire/crime alarm boxes.
1) Closed circuit recording of every street corner in CH.
2) NYPD Shabbos Drone Surveillance on Shabbos in Ch & EF
3) My Samsung cell phone currently has a 911 automatic panic alarm when you squeeze two side buttons. I assume there is GPS as well. When I squeezed it both side buttons by mistake, I got a call back from the Nassau County Police. Can this be programmed for Shomrim/Shmira/NYPD?
4) Search video around Albany projects area.
I think you can
Just send her a message
Like all your ideas
It’s been many years since I’ve seen police walking the crown heights streets and it is rare to see a car patroling. The only cars that are seen slowly making the rounds are of the local volunteers. And the ONLY thing the city is adding to our community is more drug shelters and, most recently, centers to house the unvetted illegals.
Avraham Avinu welcomed travelers and foreigners to his tent with the upmost enthusiasm. We must be concerned about the safety of our community yes, but to villainize a group as vulnerable as undocumented immigrants flies in the face of our history of fleeing persecution ourselves. We must welcome them into our tents with chesed!
We should be walking in pairs atleast
When its so late at nite……
CH is a dangerous place! We definitely need more police patrol !!
More patrols is not the answer to the problem. The answer is more active policing
is more dangerous to sit in a cafe in Tel Aviv In middle the day. but isn’t responsible to walk by yourself at 2:30 in the morning if you don’t know the streets and the language in any country
Nyc is doomed , we all had our chance to vote for the proper candidate in the elections
ASAP
Every jew a 22
Now is the time for leaders in the community to do whatever needs to be done to turn things around. Don’t wait for a major tragedy c”v to finally take action!
You guys are amazing
