The new 240-page photography book “American Youth” examines the newest generation of 18 to 24-year-olds in photographs, observing young couples and Mormon missionaries, debutante balls and drunken tailgate stupors, Obama volunteers and would-be pop stars waiting for a shot on American Idol.
Included in the book is a Lubavitcher bochur, with this description:
“My name is Mendy Kahanov, and I am a student at Oholei Menachem, which is a Chabad Lubavitch yeshivah. Whenever I have a chance, I try to go with my uncle, Rabbi Levi Baumgarten, on his Chabad Mitzvah Tank [portable mini synagogues] to help him out. We approach all Jews from all walks of life and try to bring them closer to their heritage, especially now in these hard times we are living in. I try to talk to people about doing acts of goodness and kindness.”
