Zvi Bielski will be featured on the first night of the National Jewish Retreat, on Tuesday evening, August 11th.
Bielski, son of Zus Bielski, will speak to participants about his father’s heroic efforts during World War II that saved 1,250 Jewish men, women, and children – more individuals than any other savior during the Holocaust.
The elder Bielski is one of three brothers who are the heroes of the recently released major motion picture Defiance (January, 2009).
During World War II, while living in the Soviet Republic of Byelorussia, Tuvia, Asael and Zus Bielski fled to the woods to escape the Nazis. There, they built an elaborate village – including a bakery, communal bath, and Shul – as a haven for rescued Jews.
The National Jewish Retreat is quickly selling out. A record 310 participants have already registered and just 39 rooms remain available at the Hyatt Regency.
