Community Alert from Crown Heights Chaverim
Over the past few weeks, Crown Heights Chaverim has received multiple calls from guests and residents who have been using the newly renovated Mobil Gas Station on the corner of Empire Blvd and New York Ave. (Across from the police station).
Motorists are mistakenly putting diesel in their cars instead of regular gas because it is on the same pump station.
The way to differentiate between the gas and diesel pumps at this specific gas station is:
The diesel pumps are GREEN, the regular gas pumps are BLACK. (This does not apply to all gas stations.)
Please take a minute to look at the photos below and familiarize yourself, your family and guests about this issue.
If someone does make this mistake, do not start your car! The car must be towed to a mechanic and the wrong fuel must be pumped out and system needs to be cleaned.
Putting diesel in your car instead of gas can cost you a lot of money and unnecessary aggravation.

the pipes are different sizes and won’t fit into regular car or will be too loose in disel
Aren’t diesel nozzles physically wider than regular gas nozzles, and therefore unable to fit into a regular car gas tank?
True, but if someone tries real hard, and we don’t give up easily, they will manage to succeed in getting diesel into their car. We are a talented bunch.
The Rebbe’s chassidim will find a way! 🍷 🕺 👏 🤣😁
Silly to think that way. Assuming one that drives understands the ease of the nozzle fitting into the gas pipe
You are correct, but the fact is most gas stations have diesel as a different bigger pump nozzle size, so even if someone makes this obvious mistake by choosing diesel (which happens), the pump nozzle will Not fit in, Here by this Renovated gas station in ch, it seems from this announcement that the pump nozzle for diesel is the same size as regular, so anyone that makes the mistake of picking diesel it fits in & they ruin their vehicle, also in ch we have a lot of guests & visitors many not from the states (some dont really… Read more »
Forget the pump size for a sec. do you not pay attention to what type of fuel you put in your car? how can you go from pumping 87 or 89 to pumping 45 without realizing. if only you used your “TALENT” to pay attention to what you’re doing you might not kill your car.
food for thought.
Not at all gas stations. I had it once happen to me. It was a nightmare
I believe most Diesel nozzles in general are wider, but many are not wider or at least not much wider, i am guessing if this problem started happening now after the New grand opening, then the Diesel nozzles are probably the same size (or almost the same size) as the regular gas nozzles for cars/minivans, it would be a good idea if the gas station would replace the current diesel nozzles with wider nozzles that cant fit in a regular vehicle, if not this problem will probably keep on happening a lot more.
Over here in California green is diesel too! And black is reg. Gasoline.
Time to think about the benefits of electric cars, save $, no more polluting, and superior product.
What exactly do you think powers electric cars – unicorn dust? There’s pollution in the manufacturing and disposal of batteries too – it’s just not something you see while you’re driving.
Not to mention that a lot of the components of electric cars come from China. With what’s going on there, do you really think it’s a good idea to make ourselves more dependent on them?
Changing the diesel nozzles to new larger nozzles by this place may be pricey, but in the long run its definitely cheaper than all the damage it will cause to cars, as well as every time a car puts in diesel then the car is stuck there for a long time till it gets towed, blocking the pump (or 2 pumps) which would cause less customers by the gas station.
Someone should go and let the gas station know that they shoud that
Because the amount of people that touch the pump for 5 minutes straight by any gas station, its a good idea to use gloves now because of corona
