Apple arugula salad with toasted walnuts
Apples add a sweetness and crunch to this healthy and great tasting salad. You can use baby spinach in place of the arugula if you prefer.
2 red apples
10 ounces baby arugula
3 stalks celery
1 cup toasted walnuts
¼ cup honey
¼ cup lemon juice
¼ cup oil
2 tablespoons crushed pink peppercorns
Mix honey, lemon juice, oil and peppercorns together in a jar or whisk in a bowl
Pour dressing over arugula
Top arugula with thinly sliced apples and toasted walnuts
Mix salad and top with shaved pecorino
Tip: For an added festive crunch scatter some pomegranate seeds on top of the salad.
TIP: PEEL THE OUTER LAYER OF CELERY TO GET RID OF BITTERNESS.
TIP: FOR A DAIRY OPTION, SHAVE PECORINO ROMANO OR PARMESAN CHEESE ON TOP OF SALAD WITH A PEELER.
I agree it’s insane that people are making these things up. i am 66 years old and have been making r’h for many years k’h and never heard of anything other than nuts are not allowed on that day (s) alone……chrein was not used until after simchas torah, and vinegar is a new one i am just hearing about.
let’s get back to basics.
@ #17, #18, #19 How curious. It seems that some posters have a new version of shulchan aruch previously unknown. Obviously, because a rational human being would of course check sources before posting a comment which reflects negatively on a fellow yid’s parnassah, like bitayavon magazine! Hey look, guys, bitayavon is going against shulchan aruch! Question is, why should we follow your version of shulchan aruch, if no one has ever even heard of it? Anyway, if you really want to know, it takes about 2 seconds to look it up. In the book, or even online (like wikitext for… Read more »
i thought nuts was only a problem on rosh hashana and sour things was till hoshana rabo, can someone please clarify
Walnut are not to be eaten between Rosh Hashana and Hoshana Rabbo. Their “Gematria” spells “Chet”, sin, and during this time we try to avoid sin. Nuts should be avoided in Rosh hashono, because they may have a negative effect in our ability to daven with a clear voice (get stuck in our throats)
No nuts till after shmini azeres it’s shulchan aruch
mr greens sells arugula ask them they normally keep it in the fridge with the herbs

“Mix salad and top with shaved pecorino”?? this would render salad dairy and it doesnt call for this cheese in main salad ingredietns, only in the tips – be careful… be accurate
why does it look like there is pommegranate in there as well?
