A completely rebuilt and significantly expanded Bar Mitzvah Maamar App has just been released for iPhone and Android, offering families a modern, structured and stress free way to support their sons in preparing for the Bar Mitzvah Maamar.
The app, created by Rabbi Menachem Sabbach, Director the North Eastern Jewish Centre in Melbourne, Australia, was first launched in 2017, and quickly became a trusted resource for many families. After receiving feedback from hundreds of Bar Mitzvah boys and their parents, the app has now been redesigned from the ground up, introducing a much richer and more personalized learning experience.
Parents and boys alike asked for tools that reduce pressure, maintain motivation and encourage steady progress without constant supervision. In response, the new version allows each boy to learn at his own pace with built in personalized motivation and goal setting. A custom study planner calculates how many lines need to be learned each day from now until the Bar Mitzvah, so the learner always knows exactly what to cover. This turns what can feel like an overwhelming task into a clear and achievable daily plan.
The app also introduces personal practice tools that help boys take ownership of their learning. They can record themselves, listen back and save their recordings. Parents can then listen later in their own time, without needing to sit beside their son during every practice session. This creates a more hands off approach to the Maamar preparation and removes a great deal of the stress and tension that can sometimes arise in the leadup to the Bar Mitzvah. It allows the parent to supervise from a distance, while the child builds confidence and independence.
The Maamar is presented in multiple formats, including paragraph view, linear word for word view and a full printable PDF. Users can switch between Hebrew, Yiddish and English to enhance understanding. The text highlights in real time with the audio, and playback speed can be adjusted to match the learner’s level. Memory testing tools allow the boy to hide the text, check fluency, mark sections as mastered and follow a built in countdown to the Bar Mitzvah date. Practice reminders help establish a regular routine, and a custom rewards system can be set up to further motivate progress.
