A large contingent of Lubavitchers from South Florida are planning to make the trip to Rostov-on-Don in Russia to commemorate the 100th yartzeit of the Rebbe Rashab, the 5th Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch.
The announcement came following a personal visit by Rabbi Chaim Danzinger, the energetic Shliach and Rabbi of the Jewish community in Rostov, to Florida during which he met with Shluchim and spoke to community members.
At The Shul of Bal Harbour in Surfside, Rabbi Danzinger met with its founder and spiritual leader Rabbi Sholom Ber Lipskar and his son Rabbi Zalman Lipskar. He updated them on the global effort to bring people from around the world to make the special occasion.
The 100th yartzeit is on 2 Nissan 5780 (March 26-29, 2020) and chassidim and bochurim are planning to travel to Rostov, home to the Ohel resting place of the Rebbe Rashab, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn (1860-1920) who has devoted himself to the future of the Jewish nation by involving himself in education on all levels.
Rabbi Danzinger welcomed the announcement that Rabbi Lipskar will be making the trip with his community.
“Besides the great kovod for the Rebbe Rashab, a visit by Jews from America will remind the community and youth in Rostov of the great zchus they have to live in close proximity of the holy Ohel where they can daven and and ask for blessings.”
While in Miami, Rabbi Danzinger led a farbrengen with the bochurim of the Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami. As reported, the entire Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami will be traveling to Rostov with the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Leibel Schapiro.
Speaking to the bochurim, Rabbi Danzinger pointed out how few Chassidim were present at the time of the Rebbe Rashab’s histalkus and barely a minyan was present when the kever was relocated back in the day to the current Jewish cemetery in Rostov.
“Could you imagine the nachas ruach we will bring to the Rebbe as scores of Rabbonim, Shluchim, Chassidim, Tmimim and Yidden of all backgrounds stand together on Beis Nisan for the Rebbe Rashab’s yartzeit?” Rabbi Danzinger commented.
The Rebbe Rashab founded the flagship Chabad yeshiva Tomchei Temimim, the first to incorporate Chassidic thought into its curriculum. The original Yeshiva building still stands in Rostov.
Events surrounding Beis Nisan are planned to begin on Thursday and include Shabbos (March 26-29, 2020). Rabbis Schapiro and Lipskar will be among the prominent Chabad rabbonim, mashpiim and Shluchim from around the world to lead the central farbrengen there.
