Associated Beth Rivkah Schools in Crown Heights, the flagship Chabad education institution, will begin the new school year on Thursday, after being delayed a day.
A source at the school told COLlive.com that a robo-call is now being recorded to all parents in the Brooklyn Jewish neighborhood notifying them of the development.
Yesterday, a person involved with helping Bais Rivkah told COLlive.com that the reason for not beginning the year on Wednesday was the mounting financial strains. The principals and faculty notified that they will be postponing the year due to not not being fully paid.
Bais Rivkah has two campuses: Campus Chomesh houses the Headstart and Elementary divisions at 470 Lefferts Avenue, while Administration, High School, and Seminary are housed at 310 Crown Street.
This is a school that caters to a community whose families are encouraged to have large children and not have the means to support them. They also have a policy of “not turning anyone away”. Paying tuition should be a top priority for parents BUT knowing the above, the school should be doing EVERYTHING they can to FUNDRAISE. Why are there no dinners, alumni network, auctions, purim baskets, etc etc??
In retrospect maybe it was worth the Tumul for pepole to be reminded that there is still a true chosid (rabbi shemtov) who feels the achrayus to cover the millions of dollars needed each year. Without being hindered by the fact that most pepole are thankless or even worse clueless with what he does . Besides for the fact that he single handed built a beauty full Builduing while we couldn’t get our act together and our kids were traviling to “gaza” to learn. We all owe a huge hakorois hatoiv to rabbi shemtov. And the CH leadership should aknowledge… Read more »
Rumor is some property owners came in and saved the day. Thanks
have a problem. Some cancelled flights to NY till next week. Now they can’t reschedule again without incurring high cost….
to all the people who worked it out so that br could open its doors
Chaim: So, how much did he have to pull together this time so that BR could open its doors?
Yankel: About a million.
Chaim: Problem is, it’s a “bottomless pit”.
Yankel: Vos mit a mol “bottomless pit”? BR is a tower that B”H keeps on growing higher and higher… Do you feel it’s a “bottomless pit” every time you pay the grocery bill for your family? Rather than considering it to be a “bottomless pit”, I would say “It’s a song that doesn’t end”, B”H. Thank you to all those that helped open the doors this time around…
The papers I received in the mail had conflicting times.
Thanks for clarifying.
Those that know don’t talk and those that talk don’t know…. Der Rebbe firt ois zains… Un blaibt nisht kein Baal Choiv. Where some see crisis, others see opportunity. Ashreichem those that hopped aboard…
We know it is not easy!!!!!!!!

You might not know, but there is a man named Rabbi Avraham Shemtov who has been working around the clock to raise the necessary funds. If more people in the neighorhood would prioritize properly and realize that the education of THEIR chuildren is important enough to support before the “import” of certain elements to our Shchuna, this might have been easier. Not commenting on the elements only on the priorities. Not sure how Rabbi Shemtov does it, but when you believe you are dedicated to the Rebbe’s inyonim no matter what, you have a different attitude and seyata desmaya. Maybe… Read more »
Its a valid reason to postpone the start and essentially cancel a useless orientation to publicize that teachers are behind on receiving payment, now business back to usual.
but complainers will always be complaining
if you are not happy find yourself another school!
how you all complain when they open late “but the kids are ready,” and now you have a day notice you manage to complain about that… y not be happy that they figured out a way to start school…
A days notice?
They had no money 2 days ago, and now, 2 days later, they suddenly they got rich?
what was the point?
the message is very unclear. tomorrow is full day is just orientation as was planned for wed?
