Announcement by community activist Yaacov Behrman:
A group of Askonim led by Satmar are working with state officials to pass legislation or guidelines to force the hospitals to allow patient representatives or volunteers (family members would be allowed to volunteer) to help and visit patients to ensure they are receiving proper care.
Obviously the volunteers would be dressed in full protective gear and take all safety precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
As someone who has spent years in hospitals with my parents OBM, I can attest to the critical importance of having a patient representative or family member, especially during these circumstances where doctors may be overwhelmed.
In order to make their case, the Askonim need firsthand stories from people recently hospitalized. If you or an immediate family member has a relevant story, please reach out to share with them.

Very Important Notice
We all heard horror stories of those suffering from covid 19 and were admitted into the hospital and were not allowed visitation.
Askunim are currently working to change the current guidelines to allow visitation.
We have an opportunity to present our pleas to high government officials but we need concrete stories.
If you or a family member has suffered please call the following number 646-580-3040 and provide your name and phone number, patient full name and hospital he was.
All names will be kept strictly confidential.
Excellent idea but needs to be done for nursing homes as well where 2,000 patients in ny died and where patients with corona are re admiited to nursing homes and no protective gear is given to the staff. This is by cuomos order that corona patients be admitted and that ny has no obligation to provide protective gear to nursing staff thus causing patients to be abandomed
I agree it’s a shame for our community
While this project is really important, equally important would be to document the positive extraordinary experiences and the particular hospitals and doctors.
Sillly commenton your part!
They are trying to get patients family to be able to help in the hosdpitalwhen they are sick!
Did you lose aloved one during thevirus!
You totally missed the boat, and the boat missed you, the point is to receive proper care at the hospitals!
I am a nurse and I have to tell you, if at all possible, even during normal times, you should try not to leave a patient alone in the hospital. There are some not good nurses out there and even the good ones make mistakes. In general, hospitals are understaffed and nurses are overworked. When I started in the field, a nurse would have about 4 patients. In some hospitals they now have 8-10. Its outrageous and it’s a breeding ground for mistakes. I don’t mean to make anyone feel bad who can’t be with a loved one for any… Read more »
