In a superb performance, shot in the breathtaking landscapes and forests of Costa Rica, the beloved and nostalgic song “Yakov” that took place in far away Uzbekistan, comes alive again.
The story of the life and the heroism of the late R’ Yankel Potash is soul stirring and heart warming.
The well known melody was written by the legendary Reb Yom Tov Ehrlich and was originally performed about 3 decades ago by Avraham Fried.

The performance is further enhanced by the special effects of sand painting by guest artist Aharon Zev Bernstein.
you are a gift and a blessing
A song like this captures everything and anything we represent as Yidden
Glad to hear it again
This Yid, known as Avram Fried, or as Avremel, or Avraham Friedman, a shliach of the Rebbe Zya, is a matana to us from the Rbs”o!!
And what beautiful compositions and harmony and the creative sand and artwork of A Bernstein.
Amazing!!!!!
What a song. What a feeling!
Beautiful remake.
Beautiful performance! He mentioned Afghanistan in he’s song, I lived in Russia during Afghanistan war, it was long 10 years of war between Russia and Afghanistan. A lot of young boys/man got killed in that long, horrible war. Peace is the best thing in the world!
I will never get tired of re listening to this Legend of a Song, and I’ve heard it dozens of times.
Every time I hear it , it invigorates me from anew!
Kol HaKovod Reb Avremel
Yaarich Yomim Al Mamlachtoi!
An admirer from Montreal Canada
So it’s a real story about a real person!
Just looked it up. After running away from the farm, he used the non kosher food that he didn’t eat, do bribe a helicopter pilot to take him to Tashkent. R Yom Tov Ehrlich took him in and later composed the song.
Wow.
Is this the same family as Potash from London?

That’s so interesting! Thank you for sharing!
The above link finishes, that recently one of R Yakov Potash’s Great Grandchildren got married in Israel. While R Yaakov has already passed away, his wife (who survived Auschwitz alone) was still alive and she made it to the wedding of every descendant. At the wedding they discovered, that the great-grandchild married the great-grandchild of R’ Yom Tov Ehrlich!
Wow very nice I love it thank you for sharing
Such a nice song would love a translation though.
