Over 180 women participated in the 20th Annual Australian Nshei Ubnos Chabad Convention at the Foothills Convention Centre, Mooroolbark, Victoria, hosted by the Melbourne community, this week.
The theme of this year’s convention was Nurturing Our Hearts, Strengthening Our Faith – Strength – Love – Faith.
This year’s convention was coordinated by Mrs. Baila Cyprys, Mrs. Deena Elmakeas, Mrs. Alla Gelman, Mrs. Frances Gradman, Mrs. Miriam Paltiel, Mrs. Gita Procel, Mrs. Devorah Leah Schachter, Rebbetizin Miriam Telsner, Mrs. Debbie Wolf and Ms. Shifi Wolf.
During the weekend, fascinating workshops were held on topics such as Raising Happy Children, What’s in a Label: FFB/BT (a Panel Discussion), Let It Go, Hold Your Anger, Colour My World (colour therapy), Hashgacha Pratis or Free Will?, Healthy Eating, and more, as well as a host of Shiurim.
On Friday evening, a new segment called My Encounter with the Rebbe, where the women heard from Mrs. Riva Cohen, Mrs Shoshanna Silcove and Mrs. Gita Procel about their own personal and amazing encounters with the Rebbe.
Speakers included Mrs. Chaya Mushka Benshabat, who enthalled the audience with her own personal journey to Yiddishkeit, on Motzei Shabbos. Mrs. Chaya New spoke on Sunday during brunch. This year’s convention hosted a plethora of local talent; Mrs. Nechama Shmerling, Mrs. Chaya Mushke Heidingsfeld, Mrs. Dina Moshel, and Mrs. Chaya Sziewicz.
One of the highlights of the convention was the magnificent Chinese Auction, with 20 wonderful prizes, ranging from airfares to Tupperware, a Shabbos package to a Beauty Pamper package and lots more.
Catering from Peter Unger’s Caterers made sure delicious menus flowed throughout the whole weekend, from Friday afternoon arrivals until the dessert buffet farewell. After which, the Shofar was blown and we wished everyone Ketivah vachatimah tovah.

It was a great weekend, with such a diverse group of woman from the wider Melbourne and Australian Jewish community! It was a real credit to the organizers. A correction in the article though, the workshop given by Sara Rosenfeld was definitely not to hold your anger, it was rather Hold your Temper: Let go of Anger! Big difference!
