At the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights this Sunday, hundreds watched prominent foil sculptor Dean Millien deftly transform regular aluminum foil into intricate sculptures.
Kids and adults alike were fascinated by his skilled demonstrations and enjoyed choosing which kosher animal they could take home with them, with many committing to try their foil sculpting skills at home.
One child visiting was overheard asking, “Dad, do we have that foil at home?”
Millien is just the first of a number of unusual and gifted artists to be demonstrating their skills in the Jewish Children’s Museum temporary artistic quarters this week, in a program that promises to be both entertaining and enlightening.
Visitors also displayed their unity with the victims of the Newton tragedy by melting and crafting traditional braided candles in sets; one to keep and the other to be delivered with warm wishes cards to those still in crisis.
“Art Week” will be featured until January 1, see www.JCM.museum for complete schedule.
