The Chabad-Lubavitch movement is getting one more chance to use the strategically located and sized Bedford-Union Armory in Crown Heights.
The empty 138,000-square-foot building located between Union and President streets will host the 5776 Kinus Hashluchos, the annual convention of Chabad rebbetzins.
Set to begin on 18 Shevat 5776, the convention’s main events on Thursday, Friday and Motzei Shabbos, as well as the Gala Banquet, will take place in the spacious Armory.
Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, which organizes the men’s and women’s Kinus, have found the Armory to be a convenient location for its size and close proximity to Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway.
These amenities might soon come to an end as New York City recently unveiled a plan to create new housing and recreation space in a former military armory. The project will come under public review next fall.
Until then, the domed drill hall will be converted to an upscale banquet hall to honor the Shluchos and their guests who will be coming to New York from around the world.
Kinus events on Sunday morning, before the Banquet, will take place in the Oholei Torah school on Eastern Parkway.
The Kinus is held annually in connection with Chof Beis Shevat, the yartzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, wife of the Rebbe and a rolemodel for many Chabad woman and girls.
B”H it will take place in Yerushalayim !
