Rabbi Mendy Deitsch, Director of Chabad of East Valley in Chandler, Arizona, served as the guest chaplain of the U.S. Senate in Washington, DC, on Thursday.
Rabbi Deitsch was invited by Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona to open the session of the senate with a prayer. Greeting him was Senate Chaplain Barry Black.
He was accompanied by his brother, Rabbi Yechezkiel Deitsch, Director of Chabad Tysons Jewish Center in Vienna, Virginia; Rabbi Levi Shemtov, executive vice president of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), and his son Rabbi Menachem Shemtov, Director of Chabad Georgetown.
In his prayer, Rabbi Deitsch asked for help from G-d for the elected officials to legislature properly on behalf of their constituents.
He concluded, “Please let us see more peaceful days soon with the safe return of those being held hostage, as well as the dedicated men and women of our armed forces battling evil at this time.”
Following the prayer, Rabbi Mendy Dietsch encountered a Jewish man working the C-SPAN television network. The man happily agreed to put on Tefillin and say his own prayer.
