Ariel’s Father Saved His Life Just Before He Was Murdered by Hamas

Ariel Zohar, a 12-year-old boy who lived in Kibbuz Nachal Oz, lost his entire family in the Hamas massacre on Simchas Torah.

He went for his regular morning jog that fateful day, and while he was out, Hamas terrorists broke into his home and killed his entire family – his father, Yaniv, his mother, Yasmin, and his two sisters, Techelet and Keshet. Ariel is the only survivor.

One of the final acts that Yaniv did before he was murdered was to save his son’s life. Ariel was out running when Yaniv spotted the terrorists nearing his home. He called a Kibbutz security guard to run and save his son. That security guard was able to find Ariel, bringing him to safety. Sadly, the guard who saved Ariel and many others that terrible day was killed himself by the Hamas terrorists.

During Shiva, when members of Zaka came to comfort Ariel, they asked him if there is anything he’d like to retrieve from his home in kibbutz Nachal Oz. He requested his father’s tefillin, which he received from his grandfather who survived the Holocaust!

Ariel lost everything, but he did not lose his faith.
