Volunteers at the Ahavas Chesed Center in Crown Heights are thanking an anonymous donor for a surprise gift they received this week.
R’ Velvel Farkash, who volunteers his time to prepare home-cooked meals for the center’s soup kitchen, said three cases of chicken were dropped off “without any information on who sent them.”
“House of Glatt came to deliver the cases, but when I asked, they said that it was from someone who didn’t want to be named,” Farkash told COLlive.com.
Ahavas Chesed, which has been active in the medical assistance field for decades, uses its store-front on Kingston Avenue to provide fresh hot meals for individuals and families in need and a place to socialize in a restaurant-style atmosphere.
It is run by Rabbi Avraham Lieder, director of the Ahavas Chesed organization, and is supported by generous grants from donors Yossi and Batsheva Popack in memory of his father R’ Shmuel Isaac Popack obm.
Farkash, Assistant Director of the Meaningful Life Center in New York, prepares meals on a regular basis for the dozens who visit the center daily, and says the gift was a welcome and needed surprise.
“We are so touched and grateful for this gesture,” he said. “We hope that more generous people will come forward in the same way.”
The Chesed Center is looking for additional volunteers to help serve food and drive people to the hospital. Any donations of food and paper goods would be greatly appreciated. Contact them at [email protected] or call 718-774-2424.
אני שמח לראות שיש כזה איש בעולם וזה גורם לי לחשוב שהעולם הוא מקום יפה.
