The new adult education course Outsmarting Antisemitism, created by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, was launched at a special event in the Anne Frank Center located in the Barringer House of the University of South Carolina.
The center is a permanent exhibition and educational program in partnership with the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. It is one of only four partner sites in the world and the only one in North America.
It seemed natural that they would partner with Chabad of South Carolina to host the 4-week course about positive ways to battle and deal with anti-Jewish hate which has been on the rise across the United States and the world.
Introducing the course were Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin; Dr. Doyle Stevick, USC professor and founder of at the Anne Frank House; Rabbi Hesh Epstein, Executive Director of Chabad of South Carolina; and Dr. Federica Schoeman, USC professor who specializes in Holocaust studies.
Presenting the class itself on Thursday, November 11, was Rabbi Levi Marrus, Program Director of Chabad of South Carolina and an instructor of JLI, the largest Jewish adult education academy in the world.
Following the class, participants received a timed-entry guided tour through the exhibit, which uses quotes, photos, videos, original artifacts to represent the experience of the family of Anne Frank (1929-1945) as they hid behind her father’s business.
