Look at that 26 comments for Mendy! Well done! Mendy you are the man…keep em coming!

Well intentioned. But sadly misguided.

First, the production is excellent. Well written and directed. This is on par with just about anything out there. Kol hakavod! However, there seems to be no filter. I dont expect the producer/writer/director -who happens to be extremely talented-to completely “get” how in appropriate this is. Ein adam choteh elea im kein nichnas bo ruach shtus certainly applies to a talented guy who wants to make a great video. It clouds the thinking. I am however very surprised and dissapointed that shluchim would allow something like this. Please tell me with a straight face that you would play this for… Read more »

#4says not neg. but as a BT, I know what inspired me. It wasn’t stepping into my world so much as seeing the miracles of the frum world. Of course this was an attempt at humor, so good luck. Maybe it will speak to some people, but I’m sure not to me way back when I was a beginner. Guess it depends on the ilk of whom you want to attract. Simple but cute. My gen of spiritual seekers were drawn in by the depth of the deep teachings, etc.

looks soo cute but.......

notice the “side order” the ice-cream is obviously not the point,it’s just to get people to come, and face the facts, a MASSIVE attraction IS food!! and btw, there’s always food at a farbrengen, why?? to put our nefesh habehames to “sleep” same thing here, the shluchim are just doing this to get the nefesh hab’hames to want to come also!! hooray!!
but what i don’t understand is why it doesn’t say cheesecake (instead of ice-cream ;))

thank you

The Rebbe
May 31, 2011 8:53 am

would never allow this piggie thing. i’m afraid we forgot over the years the way of the Rebbe. the Rebbe was so Makpid on every detail. one more thing we degrade the Aseres Hadibros by doing this type of thing. “A side order of ice cream”? we are talking about the Aseres Hadibros! i know some people will come and say “Dira Betachtonim” but think about it Dira Batachtonim means that we should make mundane holy not Chas Veshalom to make Holy into mundane. do we want the Yidden who come to our Chabad houses to think Yidishkit is on… Read more »

What would the Rebbe say
May 30, 2011 11:52 pm

Upon seeing this video. a) Its beautiful b)The swing set is outdated c) Child looks unhappy d)Put a Yarmulka on the boy’s head. Sounds simple doesn’t not to the Chabad Houses that want to look like conservative Temples.

I don’t see how this is stepping down. I think it’s actually really appropriate, well done & in good taste.

Mendy you ROCK!!! This video is fabulous and is aimed at people who probably don’t go to shul on Shavuot and work that day as well. This video is reaching out to secular Jews who need to feel welcomed and see that Chabad speaks their language and has a sense of humor. So many people are intimidated by Chasidism and think they aren’t welcome if they aren’t dressed in the same “uniform.” I am your #1 fan. People lighten up – wasn’t the Rebbe’s directive to attract all unaffiliated Jews? After a lighthearted video like that – I would want… Read more »

chabad house
May 30, 2011 12:36 pm

have you people been to a chabad house before, they explain things before they do it, and the chumashim are in english too
. You people take things way too seriously, this video was made for people that are prob are already eating pig and are not religious so get a grip. What would the Rebbe think about you posting negative comments about everything online.

nice

If you watched the entire thing, you’ll see that part of the idea of the clip is that the parents are having a hard time expelling them right, part of which the mother says “the piggy isn’t kosher, so let’s use a chicken instead” – it’s part of the comedy of the clip.

But I agree withe #3, how do the children understand it any better by hearing it in Loshon HaKodesh?

WEIRD! Secular people don’t need Yiddishkeit trying to be cool by using language from popular culture they’ve already discovered to be lacking in the first place. This is a misconception of those who already have it and were born into it. Stand your ground and draw people in without compromising so much. Bring people into a new awareness by being attractive & appealing on your own merits. Figure out how to show that being observant has true value which transcends time. This is how you will open the minds & hearts of those you wish to reach.

intresting
May 30, 2011 7:55 am

cute idea but how are these kids gonna understand the 10 commandments by listening to it in Hebrew?

I LOVE IT!
May 30, 2011 3:57 am

especially “this little chicken”

There must be better ways of explaining the Aseres
May 30, 2011 1:52 am

HaDibros to Yiddishe Kinderlach than using an unkosher animal as the tool. What would the Rebbe think about this? Not impressed!
