Sasha celebrated his Bar Mitzvah with all his fellow campers. Nochum took the Tzivos Hashem learning book home every night, determined to win the learning competition. Elisheva Chaya enjoyed a special Bat Mitzvah party. Seven-year-old Liza eagerly signed up for the Jewish school on the second day of camp!
The campers enjoyed boating, laser tag, swimming, bowling, and many exciting trips over two action-packed weeks. While these activities might be familiar at many Gan Israel camps around the world, the setting in Kharkiv, Ukraine lent them a unique significance. Situated on the frontlines of the war, the camp provided a rare opportunity for children to experience normalcy and joy despite their challenging circumstances.
The smiles on the children’s faces and the songs in the air were especially meaningful, given all they have endured over the past two years.
Parents expressed profound gratitude to Rabbi Moshe Moskovitz and the Kharkiv Jewish Community for their unwavering support and for organizing such a special summer experience. Their efforts provided a much-needed respite from the constant sirens and stresses of living in a conflict zone.
This summer, Gan Israel Kharkiv, Ukraine, became a beacon of joy and hope amid the ongoing conflict that has now stretched into its third year. Despite the backdrop of war, the camp managed to create an environment of happiness, learning, and unforgettable experiences for its young participants.
