Packed with original, thought provoking content, color, light and a melange of interesting, personal voices, the new edition of Lubavitch International Magazine is now available.
Rabbi Avraham Grossbaum of Chabad of Indiana says he orders quantities of each issue. “Lubavitch International is a beautiful publication that I love sharing with my community, and this issue in particular is a winner. The way the design and the mix of interesting articles present Chabad–intellectually and as a global phenomenon, makes me proud to share it. Like the Rebbe said about Lubavitch International magazine in 1991, ‘it raises the prestige of all the shluchim.’ It really does.”
Readers will find engaging content in this issue that considers critical issues facing the Jewish community today from a uniquely Chabad perspective. In a dynamic symposium, seven campus shluchim talk about the difficult balancing act they have been struggling with since Oct. 7. From Devorah Elkan at Oberlin College: “Every week at my Shabbos table, I feed students who wish harm on my family,” A Moment of Truth, Lubavitch International page 22. Imagine that.
In an article exploring the evolution of mivtza Neshek over the last 50 years, we read that “Philip Roth described Shabbat candle-lighting as the single island of sanctity in the life of a
young boy questioning his faith: ‘When his mother lit candles Ozzie felt there should be no noise; even breathing, if you could manage it, should be softened.’” And There Was Light, Lubavitch International (page 12).
And on that note, the editorial looks at why Sigmund Freud’s wife lit Shabbos candles for the first time in 50 years right after her husband died! (page 5).
The issue features a poignant review of Sarah Duke’s music: “Though sadness is often the impetus for Dukes to begin composing, her music is never dark. Faith informs every aspect of her art. . . . It was faith, and music, that sustained Dukes through her husband’s ten-month battle with Covid-19. Even in the absence of lyrics, the determination to find beauty in pain is unmistakable. Playing by Heart, Lubavitch International (page 34)
And for the intellectually curious who want to understand the value of minhag: “The words of the Torah are G-d’s explicit communication with the Jewish people. But words can say only so much; our truest feelings, our deepest desires, our strongest passions, are hardest to articulate. Sometimes the things we leave unsaid mean the most, the implicit is more powerful than the explicit, the subtext deeper than text. Custom Made: What is the Power of Minhag, Lubavitch International (page 28).
For readers who love a challenge and turn straight to the magazine’s beloved Talmud Teasers, this issue introduces a new feature: Tanya Teasers.
An article about what happens on Gimmel Tammuz at the Ohel is a primer to the experience for anyone who has never been to the Ohel. “People come at all hours and for every conceivable reason. Some come to unload, some to give thanks and ask for blessings. Mostly Jewish people visit, but gentiles come as well. Many come to the Ohel for solitude and personal reflection. At the Ohel, Lubavitch International page 38.
There is more. The magazine, which has no ads or filler “brims with original, relevant content that will keep readers interested and engaged for months to come,” says Rabbi Yosef B. Friedman, executive editor.

This is literally the best Jewish publication in the world! It’s such an honor to Chabad and to the shluchim!
“…brims with original, relevant content” – couldn’t think of a better description! Or, I would say it “flows over”! As a Lubavitcher, every line makes me swell with pride. Every paragraph confirms that Lubavitch is G-d’s gift to the world. Every story highlights the level of a Shliach/Shlucha that is hard to depict in simple words. It’s a magazine that should be on every single coffee table in every single house! The cover says it all: Lubavitch lights up the darkness with the most beautiful warm glow. B’pashtus!!
What a great magazine!
Thank you
