What were they thinking?
An aspiring frum Jewish YouTuber is trying to regain his following after the online video-sharing platform owned by Google has abruptly deleted his channel and videos.
Noam Shahar, a Chabad bochur who is based in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York, has been creating comedic clips describing religious Jewish life.
“I really see this as a form of Shlichus, and breaking down walls,” he told COLlive.com last year. “What I love about humor is that it breaks all tension in almost every scenario. When you can break that tension, that divide between people or opinions, you can really start to talk to the other person and have a meaningful conversation about Yiddishkeit.”
His video skits centered on frum life, with a focus on the baal teshuva aspect of it. Shahar doesn’t have to imagine that kind of life because he actually lived it.
He was born in Tucson, Arizona to Israeli-born parents. His father is Dr. Eyal Shahar, Professor Emeritus at the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department of the University of Arizona.
“My family wasn’t frum, but we were very traditional, so I grew up immersed in Yiddishkeit and attended Jewish day school,” Noam Shahar said. “It was a natural part of life for me. I always had a deep respect for Torah and felt connected to it. My family’s Israeli background also kept me aware and involved.”
“When I became frum, I found it so beautiful, and I thought to myself, how can I normalize Chasidim to the world?” he says about his motivation to produce videos after moving to Crown Heights.
“I saw an opportunity to blend Chabad outreach with modern media,” he says. “I started with YouTube videos, aiming to normalize Chassidic life and inject humor into everyday situations. It became a way to break down barriers and subtly educate.”
His YouTube channel has been operating for 2 years and garnered over 100,000 views. Then, he suddenly received messages from fans asking where the channel disappear to and will he be coming back.
“Frantic, I checked my channel page, and sure enough, all videos, subscribers, and hundreds of comments were all gone,” he said.
His request to YouTube Customer Service went unanswered, Shahar said.
When asked why his channel was suddenly deleted, Shahar jokingly replied, “They probably thought I was antisemitic for poking fun at religious Jews.”
Nevertheless, he reloaded each of his 30 videos in the hopes of growing back his fan base and not being deleted again.

If your YouTube channel was terminated, you can appeal the decision by going to YouTube Studio, reviewing the termination reason, and initiating an appeal through the provided steps, including providing a contact email and explanation.
Even when a content creator has over a million subs – if it wasnt for the subs messaging YouTube and the content creator having some source contact with YouTube AND you have to give it a few days, only then does it get through.
