Abigael’s on Broadway, one of New York’s oldest and most prestigious kosher restaurants, announced its closure following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The restaurant had an impressive following that includes not only kosher diners but many non-Kosher clientele as well.
Located in Manhattan, the casually elegant two-level restaurant was able to seat up to 350 guests. It served an array of specialties such as American Fare, Latin Comfort Foods, Sushi and Pan Asian.
It was led by chef Jeff Nathan whose fame matched his own restaurant’s as he appeared in the media, authored cookbooks and developed new kosher products.
Abigael’s supplied many of the areas’ finest restaurants, hotels and arenas with supplemental kosher meals. Their off-premise Supplemental Meals Program was one of the most sought after throughout New York City.
Here is the full announcement:
Hello Abigael’s Customers!
We hope that each one of you came through these difficult times with a minimal of disruption to your lives. For some of us, we will remember this time for the loss of those we loved & admired, others will cherish the quiet stint we spent at home, and the delicious meals that we prepared with love in our own kitchens.
For us at Abigael’s on Broadway, we stressed when the COVID 19 Pandemic hit New York City. We worried for the safety of our employees & their families. Therefore, we were one of the first restaurants that opted to close up shop for the duration of the outbreak, with big plans for opening again as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, COVID 19 has taken a toll on the restaurant industry, too. Sadly, we have made the difficult decision to not re-open Abigael’s as a dine-in restaurant. For nearly 25 years we have been one of the original fine dining kosher restaurants in NYC. This was the final year on our lease and our partner of 35 years is ready to retire. With all these lost months, it is no longer practical for us to continue with the grand plans we had.
Abigael’s will continue to provide our Supplemental Meals Program from our commissary to hotels, restaurants, catering halls and offices, just as we have for the past few decades, with new menus and delivery options. We will still be at Madison Square Garden with our Abigael’s, by Jeff Nathan concession, once they are allowed to re-open.
It is with heartfelt thanks that we offer to you our sincerest appreciation for all the years of love and special occasions that you’ve shared with us. Some of our proudest moments were when we made your first date, your proposal, your wedding, Sheva Brachot, B’nai Mitzvot, fashion show, business meeting, anniversary, graduation, holiday celebration, special occasion & night on the town something memorable for each and every one of the guests. We hope you’ll share your stories and photos of some of these milestones.
We wish you all brighter days and finer meals in the world to come, even if you make them yourselves! Many thanks for being part of the hundreds of thousands of Abigael’s customers over the last 25 years. We are proud to have served you!
With warm regards,
Chef Jeff Nathan & the Abigael’s team
We have some amazing memories from Abigael’s. The food was great and we once met Benjamin Netanyahu there
Thanks for your kind words, and for sharing some memories with us!

Thank you! We will still have our catering and Supplemental Meals available… as well as our Concession Stand at Madison Square Garden.
Abigael’s is a amazing delicious restaurant, IYH after this entire Corona crises finishes and stores start to fully reopen again, Maybe Abigael’s will look into possibly opening/relocating to Crown Heights, It used to be that for fancy kosher restaurants Manhattan was the only place to go, But over the last few years, Almost a dozen fancy restaurants opened here in Crown Heights, BH Being full every night, Besides for Crown Heights Residents, Frum Yidden from All other neighborhoods not just from Brooklyn, But from the entire NYC and even from NJ, Monsey, Long Island etc as well as Jewish Visitors… Read more »
Thanks for such a nice post. Although we’ve closed our Broadway dining rooms, we’ll still be in business for our Catering, Supplemental Meals, Corporate & Madison Square Garden Commissaries. But a location in Crown Heights is a good thought, too! 🙂
I have warm memories of your Murray Hill location steps from our home. Elaine Goldklang was a big fan and dined there with us. Then we hosted the Chabad of Midtown Pesach seders at the new Abigail’s on Broadway way back when. The best food. Good people. You will be missed.
