It is quite miraculous what can happen when one has a dream, has perseverance and the right support system in place.
Avremy Scheinfeld worked in the food industry for 10 years. After countless hours spent working for others, he finally followed his dream to open up his own kosher restaurant.
The challenges he faced could have been a reason to give up on this dream. He lost his father, who had always pushed him to open his own restaurant. He partnered up with a close friend and found a great location. After much negotiation, it unfortunately fell through. They finally found a great spot, signed the lease, got all the permits needed, the contractor, the financing, the right equipment, the staff, the chef and the menu. So, after two long hard and painstaking years, they were all ready to open up for business- and Covid hit.
As challenging as this was, Scheinfeld and the team trudged forward. Once given the go-ahead, Abe’s Corner started to provide delivery and take-out. They kept moving forward, they kept their vision alive and after much faith and perseverance, Abe’s Corner is now one of the hottest spots in the Crown Heights and Flatbush area.
Targeting a very wide clientele, Abe’s Corner offers you the opportunity to have an authentic gastropub experience, where a sports game is playing on the screen while you feast on burgers, wings, poppin cauliflower, brisket putin and beer on tap. It’s a gastropub environment in a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere.
Abe’s Corner is located on the corner of Rogers Avenue and Clarkson Avenue and offers a large outdoor seating area where both families and friends can get together to enjoy the delicious eclectic food on the menu.
You are greeted by sports murals on the walls, and upon entering you will find the corrugated steel ceilings, antique door, metal tables and chairs and gas pipe lighting. It offers a very unpretentious yet rustic look that goes very well with rustic food. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting and you can tell how happy the staff are to be working there. Abe’s Corner takes pride in giving back to the community by making sure that all the staff hired are from the Brooklyn area.
It’s a special watering hole, where all types of people come together to break bread. The food is unique, from the “moty burger” which is named after Scheinfeld’s father, is an eight oz burger with duck confit, pickled red onion, fried egg, pickle chips, sweet onion jam, arugula and a bourbon glaze. The Crispy Chicken sandwich which is twice coated, has harrisa mayo, sweet pickles, lime cilantro cabbage and arugula. There are their newest items, the Ruben, a delicious smoked pastrami sandwich that includes pickled red onions, house-made coleslaw, pickles and a Russian dressing. Another new item is the Korean Waffles Sliders made up of Korean fried chicken, arugula, bourbon syrup, mustard aioli and bulgogi sauce. With all these amazing flavors, people just love the taste, the ambiance and the service. It’s a great place to be.
The neighbors are very respectful and there is currently a parking lot for customers across the street from the Bar. The community has embraced Abe’s Corner, and what used to be a pretty dormant area in Brooklyn, is now completely revived because of Abe’s.
Scheinfeld has shown that when you truly believe in something and believe in yourself, and with the right support system in place, no matter what life throws your way, you can always manage to keep moving forward. Build yourself a team, keep going and don’t let anything stop you. The staff at Abe’s Corner saw this passion in their boss and took a bet on a business that opened during one of the most difficult times. He motivates them and creates an atmosphere where everyone just wants to be at Abe’s Corner.
When asking Scheinfeld how he would sum up this entire experience, he answers, “It is truly meaningful to see that when you invest in yourself, your staff and your business, they in turn will invest right back in you. When Covid hit and we lost indoor dining, we had to let staff go, and so when we were allowed to have indoor dining again, we immediately reached out to the staff who were with us from back then, and are so glad that we are able to rehire them.”
“Abe’s is a truly friendly and loving place,” said one patron who did not want to give her name, “you can feel it from when you walk in, to the food, to the service. There is love and appreciation all around.”
