Tamarac, FL is no stranger to the yearly Sukkah Mobile rolling around town. However, every year brings new visitors; each with their own sentiment to share.
“You know, Rabbi; I was sitting in my house, feeling a bit down. As I looked outside my window, I saw the Sukkah Mobile pass by, and it brought me joy!” Said a gentleman who although it was raining, emerged from his house to excitedly fulfill the mitzvah.
At Harbor Memory Care, an elderly woman recounted how she felt reminded of her childhood, when her Bubbe and Zaide had a Sukkah of their own. The Sukkah Mobile, specifically built on a trailer-backed truck, was made accessible for this exact reason. Although wheelchair bound, she too, could experience sitting in a Sukkah once again.
And no Jewish experience is complete without a little Jewish geography. Such as the woman who after shaking the Lulav questioned, “What is your name, Rabbi?”
Followed by, “Oh wow, I have a friend who always told me that a Rabbi Engel taught her son Bar Mitzvah lessons years ago. What a small world.”
The Sukkah Mobile 5785 had the honor of hosting many a Jew, whether it be at local shopping centers, old age homes, senior communities, or private homes.
