The first group of Talmidim Shluchim to Cheder Levi Yitzchok in Melbourne, Australia were received with joy and dancing in the airport.
Hailing from Beis Medrash Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, Mendel Schuchat, Tzemach Cunin, and Mendel Bart, arrived in Melbourne together with a group of 10 Cheder boys who had gone to spend ‘Tishrei with the Rebbe’.
The entire school went with the Principal Rabbi Yakov Lieder to greet them with dancing and created a lively scene for the crowd that gathered to watch.
Mr. Eliezer Kornhauser, the proud founder of the school, said that this is a big day for the entire Melbourne community, and more specifically for the Cheder.
“Our goal is to continue to prove that ‘Australia is no different’ and that even in Australia it is possible to raise Chassidishe kids who are completely devoted to the Rebbe,” he said. “We brought the Shluchim here to assist us in accomplishing that mission.”

I was privileged to have Rabbi Lieder as my principal many years ago – He infused a sense of joy and excitement like no other. We all looked forward to the entire school assembly just to hear his jokes and stories.
