A Lubavitcher in Upsate New York encountered candidate George Phillips Tuesday, and was suprised to discover the Republican candidate’s lucky charm.
The non-Jewish Phillips, battling Democrat Maurice Hinchey for New York’s 22nd Congressional District seat, pulled out of his pocket a photo of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
It turns out that one of his supporters, Butch Dener, is a Chabad follower “who loves the Rebbe.”
Dener gave the candidate the photo and told him about the Chabad-Lubavitch Rebbe’s greatness and his contributions toward world education, morality, and acts of charity.
“It will watch over you,” Dener told the candiate who according to a GOP poll is tied with Hinchey with potential votes.
