The books were returned to the Rebbe’s library, I eagerly tell my children with a sparkle in my eye. They look back at me in confusion.
As Hey Teves approaches, the anticipation in the air is one that many of our youth can’t understand. Why are we celebrating the return of books? What is the spiritual meaning of this fight? Why is an event significant 30+ years since its occurrence?
Those of us who experienced Hey Teves in 1987 appreciate the magnitude of the library that shaped our community and understand why it is highlighted in the Chabad calendar. But how can we give that message over to our children who were born decades later?
At Levi Yitzchak Library of the 5 Towns, our mission statement is emphasized on a day like today. With a vast selection of books representing our history and values, our children are given the opportunity to shape their own appreciation for the victory of a returned library. The education and creative outlet acquired from the Levi Yitzchak Library is a gift that will remain with them forever.
So why is Hey Teves an important day for our children?
Because it represents our passion. Our drive for knowledge. Our resolve to spread Yiddishkeit to a spiritually empty world. And only a library itself can teach them that significance.
Every month, together with MyShliach, the Levi Yitzchak Library ships out hundreds of boxes of books to shluchim. We aren’t just a lending library for the 5 Towns, we are an engaging resource for children and teens throughout the country.
Today, partner with the Levi Yitzchak Library of the Five Towns for a continued Hey Teves victory!
