Hundreds of people gathered on Sunday to celebrate a public Chanuka menora lighting at the famed Sydney Opera House, with the Harbour Bridge in the background.
The Sydney Opera House is Australia’s most recognizable building and is an icon of Australia’s creative and technical achievement. Since its completion in 1973 it has attracted worldwide acclaim for its design and construction, enhanced by its location on Bennelong Point within a superb harbour setting.
Organised by CBD Chabad and Yisrolik Kevman of Southhead Youth, the event was a first for the Opera House.
One of the participants wrote after the event: “Just wanted to say a big ‘Yasher Koach’ to Rabbi Dovid Sebban of CBD Chabad for a very meaningful powerful lighting of the Menorah right next to the iconic Sydney Opera House. If that wasn’t a publicizing the Chanuka miracle and Jewish pride, then I don’t know what is. I felt very proud to be part of such an event.”
