Yoske Strasberg, a Lubavitch chossid from Crown Heights, credits a two wheel bicycle with improving his quality of life and wants others to benefit too.
“When you bike, you are more relaxed,” he told COLlive, donning a red helmet. “And when you are relaxed, you are a better husband and father. Everything is different.”
It’s been exactly a year since the 42 year-old began cycling at the instruction of Dr. Eli Rosen, a family physician in Brooklyn, NY.
“I started out with Yehuda Blesofsky and kept on with others. It was hard at first. We started 6 AM,” says Strasberg, a father of 9 who works in the moving business.
So far he lost 51 pounds. “And its not from not eating,” he notes. “I eat more than ever. I can walk faster and the clothes fit me better.”
He goal now is to spread the word.
On the last days of Pesach Strasberg posted a sign in the 770 Shul offering adult men to join him in his rides. A few locals donated bikes for the healthy cause.
The bike Gemach is available to all. “You can take a bike to ride alone or join us. I’m not a professional biker, but I know more than the average guy who never touched a bike – so I give tips for starters.”
His favorite area for riding in Brooklyn is Prospect Park, but he pedals to the George Washington Bridge too.
“Mashpia Reb Reuven Dunin used to say: life is like a bike: when it’s hard you know you’re going up. When it’s easy – you’re going down. And when you stop – you fall,” Strasberg concludes.

he hust qouted s/t the rebbe said, not his own ideas. if u dont like it b/c its more important to be fit & healthy than to listen to the rebbe, than go to….
You hit the nail on the head. It seems that shea hecht has all the answers to life’s problems. He’s a REAL scientist.
What does international thinker and Rabbi Shea hecht have t say on this subject?
maybe he could write something so we could all know the right aproach to this subject.
#20, no one asked u to be their mashpia. It’s very, very important to stay fit and healthy, it’s not just important, but a mitzvah in the torah. I love this idea!! It’s a cheap, easy, fun way to stay healthy. I’m going to push my husband to start biking! And it’s great Yoske started this little bike gemach, it will give ppl. a chance to try out biking without having to purchase a bike. Thank you!
When the Rebbe saw a bachur riding a bike in Crown Hiegts he told him it’s not Kfar Chabad here. I think before we start trends check what the Rebbe said about it. In Kfar Chabad were men do ride bikes women are not allowed. vedal
He whizzed past me today on Eastern Parkway as I was “kriching” up the hill. Glad to see he wears a helmet, a good example to kids.
Fulton Bike shop, Two minutes from Crown Heights on fulton and albany. Chinese guys but very fair and honest and well priced.
Phone number there is 718-778-2887
Say Jack sent you.,
I saw a Jewish man riding his bike the wrong way down a one way street today in Crown Heights. Bikes must follow rules of the road-they could be ticketed; also, anyone over fifteen can’t ride on sidewalks.
thank you
what would yoskeh say about a bike lane in CH

What’s wrong with women and girls riding if they can still be dressed tznius? It’s great exercise.
Maybe he should get a chitas on microfilm and tape a pushka to his bike. Where can someone get their bike fixed in Crown Heights?
