An evening marking the Ninth yartzeit of Mrs. Gita Gansburg will take place this Motzei Shabbos, Ohr L’Vov Kislev/November 18. The Melave Malka Gathering, beginning at 8:30 p.m. will be held at Mrs. Gansburg’s home for 38 years, the Machon L’Yahadus dormitory at 1367 President Street and on Zoom.
During one of the Rebbe’s visits to the dormitory on the first night of Pesach, the Rebbe told Mrs. Gansburg, “Thank you for raising my daughters.”
Mrs. Gansburg devoted nearly four decades of her life to “raising the Rebbe’s daughters.” In this capacity she worked together with her husband, famed chasid Rabbi Yitzchok (“Itchke”) Gansburg. Mrs. Gansburg is the daughter of the renown chasid Reb Refoel Nachman Kahn.
The event, “Five Minutes with Mrs. Gansburg,” will feature people who knew Mrs. Gansburg in different capacities and at different times of her life. They will each share a teaching, memory or life-lesson from Mrs. Gansburg for five minutes.
Rabbi (Major) Shlomo Goldfarb, Mrs. Gansburg’s grandson, will be sharing a message from where he is stationed on the Northern Border with Lebanon.
Rabbi Shloma Majeski, principal of Machon L’Yahadus; Adina Adry and Dana Pestun – both alumni of the dorm, and Chana Nemni who worked closely with Mrs. Gansburg, will also be sharing. The evening will be chaired by Yehudis Cohen, currently assistant principal of Machon L’Yahadus and also a dorm alumna.
Shared one alumna, who now lives with her family in Miami, “I recently told my husband that if it wasn’t for Mrs. Gansburg I would not have anything close to what I have in my life. I don’t know if I would have made the same healthy choices.”
Another alum, now living in Montreal with her family, reminisces, “I remember getting sick and Mrs. Gansburg taking care of me like a mother.”
“Our dorm is a nurturing place for our students,” explains Rabbi Majeski, “surely due in part to the continuation of Mrs Gansburg’s legacy of making the dorm a ‘home away from home’ for the students.”
This year’s Machon L’Yahadus students hail from all over the United States as well as from Canada, Israel, Ukraine, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico and Argentina.
