This past Sunday, the Chabad Yeshiva in Montreal celebrated their annual Mishnayos Baal Peh awards celebration.
The yearly contest takes place in the weeks preceding Yud Alef Nissan as a Birthday present to the Rebbe. As we know the Rebbe requested a birthday present of a hosofa in learning nigleh and learning chassidus.
Twice weekly the bochurim from the Zal would give up their lunch break to come and test the talmidim, usually there would be a line waiting to get tested.
By the end of the contest, the boys had chazered baal peh (by heart) more than 77,000 lines!
This includes 50,749 lines of Mishnayos, 12,467 lines of Tanya and many lines of Gemorah too. A special Yediya Klolis booklet was learned as well.
The Yeshiva joined many other Yeshivos and schools around the world who through the encouragement of Chayolei Tzivos Hashem presented to the Rebbe an amazing gift of over 224,000 lines of Mishnayos and over 224,000 lines of Tanya baal peh in honor of the Rebbe’s 112th birthday on Yud alef nissan. The Yeshiva in Montreal reaching one of the highest amounts in the world!
The prize giving event opened by the principal Rabbi Yossi Charytan welcoming everyone and stressing the importance of reviewing by heart as it sharpens the memory. He congratulated the boys on their accomplishments, and thanked the rabbeim for their support in this contest.
The prizes were generously donated by Mr. Josh Baazov L’ilu Nishmas his father Yosef ben yehoshua Baazov.
Rabbi Shmuel Vaisfiche, who coordinated this project, then distributed the prizes staring with the Hayom Yom of the preceding Shabbos that discusses the importance of learning mishnayos by heart.
The top prize of the entire Igros Kodesh set went to talmid Velvel Reikhtman who chazered 3 sedorim of mishnayos and a few perokim of Tanya by heart, totaling more than 13,000 lines by heart!
5 second place winners received a set of shas.
The event ended with the talmidim excitedly looking forward to next year’s contest IY”H and planning on what they will be learning baal peh!
